Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reboot Showing at E3 2019.

The classic hit first-person shooter game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is scheduled to be shown at E3 2019. Oscar Dayus at gamespot.com is reporting that us gamers will have a look at the updated reboot of the blockbuster title.

The new Call of Duty game is set for an October 25, 2019 release date. The platforms will be on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The gameplay will be focused on a more realistic idea of combat. There is still very little information about the multiplayer mode. According to the game’s creators, the voice actors will also be different.

Cross-play is the new “big” feature of the game. Gamers can now play together across PS4, Xbox One, and PC, adding to the longevity of the new game. Activision has announced that the company will not be selling season passes that lock multiplayer maps. The new maps and events will be free to all players. This is a welcomed business strategy to get as many gamers to buy and play the game as possible. Further DLC’s will launch exclusively on PS4 first.

Another major change that's coming to the game’s direction is the idea that the original 2007 game will be set in a different universe than the new 2019 version. The game is being published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, who’s studio narrative director, Taylor Kurosaki had this to say about the direction of the game:

“Sure, well, the original game was ripped from the headlines. But it was ripped from the headlines of 2007. And now, here we are 12 years later, and the world has further changed. I would say that compared to 2007, the [Operation Iraqi Freedom] or whatever it was, that was kind of traditional warfare. Those were guys in tanks, fighting other guys in tanks and Jeeps, and this side wore this uniform and this other side wore a different uniform, and this side flew this flag, and the other side flew the other flag.”

Taylor Kurosaki also elaborated that the games would be much more mature, authentic, and focused on the realities of being a soldier. The game’s creators set goals for the campaign: "Create an emotional connection through the realities of war," and "Push the boundaries of the medium."

The recurring trend of taking the older “tried and true” hit titles, remaking them, repackaging them, adding new features, and selling them again seems to be the way many video game companies are staying in business. Who knows how long this trend will last, but for the rest of us gamers, we welcome the new redesigned games especially the cross-play feature. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 is scheduled to be shown at E3 June 11, 2019, at 3:00 PM.
