Geese Howard Joins Tekken 7 Roster, EVO 2017

It's been two years since the King of Fighters series has been seen at EVO, and with it came a number of surprise announcements. One of those announcements came from Namco Bandai, with the introduction of one Geese Howard into the Tekken 7 roster. He is said to be available as DLC some time in Winter of 2017.

For those of you who don't know who Geese Howard is, you might have heard of his famed arch Nemisis, Terry Bogard, or even Mai Shiranui -- two mainstays of the famous King of Fighters franchise. The three of these characters were carried over from SNK's first hit fighting game franchise Fatal Fury.

Geese Howard is the final boss of the first Fatal Fury game on the Neo Geo arcade cabinets of the early 90's. He was a mafia kingpin who killed Terry Bogard's adoptive father, prompting both Terry and his brother Andy to enter a tournament Howard was hosting called The King of Fighters. (Yes, Geese Howard is credited as the founder of the King of Fighters tournament.)

One of Geese Howard's most famously obnoxious tropes is that the guy never seems to die. He was believed to have been killed in the first game, then he miraculously comes back without explanation in King of Fighters '96, and is a regular main in the King of Fighters XIV roster even today.

The Return of SNK Boss Syndrome?!

Geese Howard is often credited as being the first example of the frustrating phenomenon known as SNK Boss Syndrome, where an already overpowered sonofabitch is given satanic levels of attack priority, and almost supernatural input-reading bullcrap to rival the likes of even Charles Xavier of the X-Men. Nowadays, KOFXIV gave him standing command grabs that work on grounded enemies, that are not only unblockable, but can be chained together into other command grabs, including unblockable Supers.

As you might have seen in the trailer linked above, Gees kept at least one of his standing command grabs on grounded enemies. Howard's appearance in Tekken 7 might have dwarfed all of that with a standing parry that punishes into a command grab.

With this announcement, and the revelation that Akuma would play a pivotal role in Tekken 7's story a while back, both Capcom and SNK characters have made cameos in the Tekken 7 universe; similar to the crossover of the beloved Capcom vs. SNK franchise.

Wait a minute... *PUTS ON TINFOIL HAT* Could this announcement be the prelude to something else? Is this true love we're makin'?! Could this herald the coming of the tuna and bacon combination for the Sony Playstation?!?
