There is an Action RPG developed in partnership with Netmarble Games, set to be released for Mobile platforms. It's Called King of Fighters: All Star, and has had both a launch trailer, and footage of its gameplay demo leaked from a press event held in South Korea.
Of course, you probably haven't heard any of this, since there isn't any enthusiast sites anywhere covering it, and there seems to be no discussion in the fighting game community about it outside of the comments section of the YouTube trailers. We checked SNK's official website, Netmarble's news feed, and even SNK World's Facebook page, all with no information AT ALL regarding the game. No release date, no mention of the platform... Nothing.
It isn't hard to see why this is the case. The release of King of Fighters: World in China, and News of KOFXIV making it's way to STEAM as early as next month seems to have completely overshadowed everything else SNK is working on. Once the game is released, this will be the second King of Fighters game released on a mobile platform in a single year, with the first being the aforementioned KOF:WORLD.
So SNK is announcing two mobile games with the KOF IP at relatively the same time. That might seems a little weird to those of us in the west, but there are quite a few reasons this would make sense from the perspective of SNK, as well as it's parent company Layou Millennium. Since SNK was purchased by a Chinese company, it's marketing strategy revolves around what's hot in China right now, and the biggest two consoles in China are the iPhones, and expensive Android devices. It's only been a year since China's ban on gaming console imports was lifted in the country, so console gaming never really took off the way it did in other parts of the world. And in case you missed it, the fighting game scene on mobile devices is almost completely dominated by SNK games, with the top dog being King of Fighters 2012.
We'll keep you posted as soon as we find some release dates.
